My Website Isn’t Showing Up in Google
Your site not showing in Google is usually because of technical issues, poor content, or low authority. Learn how to rank in Google with Tao Digital.

Building a quick website and churning out a few words might have been enough to get your business shown in the past, but succeeding on Google isn’t a magic bullet. Google’s commitment to quality websites and providing value is absolute.
So, that leads us to why your website might not be showing up on Google. The global SEO services market is worth USD 83.98 billion in 2026, and for a good reason. It’s a real hotbed of competition.
With that in mind, here’s why your website might not be showing up on Google, and how you can fix the problem.
What it means when your website ‘isn’t appearing in Google’
A website that isn’t appearing can mean two different things. It either means your website hasn’t been indexed at all, or it just isn’t ranking for your broad keywords.
Don’t assume that Google automatically knows your website exists in the first place. If it can’t find and access your pages, you won’t appear. This could be due to a technical issue where Google can’t crawl your site, or you’ve been penalised.
It could also mean you’re just not ranking because your pages aren’t a relevant match for a specific keyword. Remember, nearly 97% of websites get zero organic traffic from Google, so you have to prove that a page deserves to rank for your chosen keyword.
How long does it take for my site to appear in Google?
Google’s search algorithm is constantly changing. It could take as little as a few days for your website to appear, or as long as a few months.
And by ‘appear’ we mean that Google is crawling it and acknowledging that it exists. It doesn’t mean this is how long it will take for your website to appear on the first page for your selected keywords.
SEO takes time, especially in 2026, and especially in an area where Gartner predicts that overall search engine volume will drop by 25% by the end of 2026 due to generative AI.
For context’s sake, Ahrefs conducted a study on how long it took for websites to hit the top ten. According to their findings, just 5.7% of ranking sites on the first page were published within the previous 12 months.
Websites not showing in Google Search vs. Google Business Profile
Google Search and Google Business Profile are two different models. Just because you appear in one doesn’t mean it translates to the other. Google Search displays organic website links based on SEO and relevance. In contrast, Google Business Profile focuses on local results, based on proximity, verified information, and reputation.
Another point to remember is that once your site is up and Google is crawling it, you should appear in search results naturally sooner or later. For your Google Business Profile, you must claim your profile, set it up manually, and verify your business with Google.
In other words, just because you’re doing well in Search doesn’t mean you’ll automatically be incorporated into the Google Business Profile ecosystem without taking direct action.
Reasons your website may not be shown in Google searches
Google decides whether a website will appear in its search results based on three conditions that must be met (at a minimum).
Google must know the website exists, there must be a page relevant to a specific keyword, and the page must demonstrate that it deserves to rank for that keyword by being relevant to searchers.
So, let’s go into more of the specifics.

Indexing issues
Google is having problems crawling and indexing your website. It can happen because your site is brand new, but it can also happen due to two technical issues:
1. ‘noindex’ tag – You’ve accidentally activated this tag, which tells search engines not to index your pages.
2. Robots.txt – Your website explicitly blocks Google’s crawlers from accessing your site because your robots.txt file has been misconfigured.
These are simple technical fixes that often result from the web development stage. Make the changes and then wait for Google to notice and catch up.
Site architecture
Your site’s architecture can also act as a blocker against ranking in Search. For one, if you haven’t submitted a sitemap to Google, it will take them longer to find your pages. Likewise, if you haven’t got a valid SSL (HTTPS) certificate, Google may hide or demote your pages.
In terms of the actual user experience, your architecture can also harm your standing with Google. If your site contains complex linking or is plain disorganised, this won’t just upset visitors but also confuse Google.
Content quality
Content is king, and it remains one of the leading factors in deciding whether a page deserves to rank for its targeted keyword.
Examples include:
· Low-value content.
· Keyword stuffing practices.
· Duplicate content from other sites.
Google does have spam and quality guidelines. Violate them, and penalties could apply that hide your website from their search results. It ultimately boils down to E-E-A-T, or Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.
Low authority, high competition
High-value keywords are red-water battlegrounds for any site, especially one that’s still starting out. It’s no exaggeration to say that it could take years to rank for the highest-value keywords.
If you lack backlinks and quality content, you simply won’t compete for the most common search terms, meaning you won’t appear. Likewise, if you have low domain authority, your site won’t be able to wield the authority or trust to rank visibly.
